Oh the complex webs we weave when we first practice to deceive

The website/company MoneyExpert.com (nothing to do with the coincidentally similarly named MoneySavingExpert.com) who put my wife in touch with Immediate Financial who then put her in touch with Simple Debt Solutions all have one thing in common...

Must be crowded.

Relationships

Immediate Financial (House and Home Care Ltd) the company who put my wife in contact with Simple Debt Solutions, share the same registered office and Simple Debt Solutions. Simple Debt Solutions are part of the Leonard Curtis Group. Mr Maloney who SDS say is the insolvency practitioner for the IVA works for Leonard Curtis. Make what you like of this arrangement.

Liars or Incompetence?

On 11th August Donna Hayes of Simple Debt Solutions emailed my wife:

"As discussed, you have advised that your ex partner has paid in full outside the terms of the IVA, all of your creditors save for Max Recovery and you have advised that you have confirmation for this.
I have spoke to your Supervisor who has advised that if you pay the remaining balance owed to Max Recovery of £1,006.88 together with our remaining fees of £2,420.00, that your IVA will be concluded."

After this was paid they changed their tune and now more meetings will be required - "ker-ching". Was Donna Hayes lying, was "the supervisor" lying, was this innocent incompetence or a clever ploy to rack up more fees?

Update: They now seem to have reverted to their original position.

Case Study - not mentioned on their website

My wife went to Simple Debt Solutions with a debt of 17000 ... a nightmare

0 out of 10

That is the vote I would give to Simple Debt Solutions so I guess I (and I suspect many others) will not be mentioned on their website.

Our friendly debt advice team are on call 9am - 9pm 7 days a week.

That's Simple Debt Solutions advert, and apart from the friendly part its true. They would phone my wife several times a week at home and work, pestering her repeatedly with the same questions regardless of what she had told them previously.

Advertisements vs Reality

Immediate Finance (Trading Name of "House & Home Care Ltd" - I guess this should have been a clue to the nature of the company if she had noticed it in the smallprint) who put my wife into the rapacious hands of Simple Debt Solutions stated that debts could be restructured to reduce them by up to 75% and that the debt would be repaid within 60 months. The reality was a 0% restructuring and 0% repayment after 2 years. The only big percentage were Simple Debt Solutions fees - roughly 26% of what she originally owed.
